131 passengers are dead after a US Air airplane, coming from Chicago, crashed outside Pittsburgh, as it was preparing to land yesterday, making it the worst air disaster in the United States in the past three years.

House Passes Massive Stimulus Package
I first heard about this story when I read the morning paper. Then I did some addictional research on this topic online. One of the reasons why this story is important is because it shows that Obama is swift in action. It is one of the signs that Obama is staying true to his words regarding what he would do in the White House. However, despite being approved by the majority in the House of Representatives, it also shows how non-bipartisan the stimulus package is.
The reason why this is newsworthy is because of its importance. Though it is going through House, the Stimulus Package can affect everyone. Some people in the U.S. will either benefit from the package or suffer from taxation resulting in its passage.
Another reason why it is newsworthy is because of its timeliness. America is going through a Recession and any news regarding national spending should be important.
It is also newsworthy because the news is caused by popular public figure and is somewhat a novelty. Barack Obama, which somewhat near the peak of his fame, is certainly front news martial. It is also a novelty because Obama is the first African-American president and this is one of his first bills that he plans on getting passed.

Hello Jour61 Class
Hello Professor McCune and fellow Jour61 classmates,
My name is Truth Esguerra, yes that is my actually name, and I am a Journalism Major with an emphasis on Magazines. The reason why I chose to learn about Journalism is because I felt that I have to live up to my name... and also because it is fun. I enjoy story telling, interviewing important public figures and most importantly writing.
Though I have an emphasis in magazines, I do not mind doing reporting in all kinds of media, newspapers, broadcasts, and even podcasts. I just love Journalism in general.
My dream career would be to work for some sort of Filipino News Organization, such as ABS-CBN. I enjoy helping out people within the Filipino Community.
For my personal life, I really enjoy sports. I love the Warriors, even though they are losing right now. And I am also a fan of the Oakland A's and the Giants, and sometimes the 49ers. I am also a huge fan of the Detriot Lions, yes... I know they are the worst team in NFL history. ESPN is basically the only thing I watch, besides the actual games themselves. The only other things I watch are CNN, TV Patrol, a Filipino News Program, and occasionally the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. I also read the Mercury News every morning.
I am pretty much a nice person. Don't be afraid to leave comments on my page.
