Obama, Senate reach deal on economic stimulus package


I first heard about this story on the newspaper. Afterwards, I did some additional research online and found this article from the Chicago Tribute. The reason why this news story is important because it shows that there is massive conflict in Washington.

The stimulus package, which Obama believes is the answer to America’s economic problems, is receiving a lot tension within the Senate. The stimulus bill, which was passed in the House of Representative solely by Democrats, is having a difficult time recruiting Republicans to approve the bill. It is these kinds of tensions that stall any sort of action regarding American’s current crisis.

Also, this new story shows that the nation is still divided over the issue. Though it seemed that Obama has bipartisan support at first, this story solidifies that he has a long way to go in regards to unifying a nation.

This story is very timely and it is newsworthy because almost everyone is affected by this bill. The recession is crippling the American way of life and Obama’s plans of rescue are put on hold.
